Name: Jarod Boles
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from and how did you get here?
I was born and raised here in Austell/Mableton pretty close to Six Flags. I got a fancy degree from Kennesaw State University, started grad school in Indiana and decided to come back to focus on myself for a bit. I was never really an athlete growing up. In fact, I was quite the opposite. After years of being severely overweight, I made the decision to start working out on my own a couple of years ago at planet fitness. Flash forward to summer 2016, Megan, Rick and I were talking about fitness at a family get together when the words “CrossFit” and “Groupon” came up, and the rest is history!
How long have you been a member at The Garage?
Since June of good ole’ 2016
How did you find The Garage?
Megan and Rick Wildermuth introduced me to The Garage
What do you like about working out at The Garage?
There are several pros to consider working out at the garage. I’m pretty fond of the whole “conquering things that I didn’t think I could accomplish feeling”, however I love, love, LOVE my peeps, my amazing coaches and the feeling of sanctuary here. It’s our time to step out of adulting and pout like children when we still can’t do that skill we’ve been working on while celebrating our victories in a WOD. 😉
What do you do for a living?
I am actually a freelance musician, which basically means I’ll play for food/make people coffee for health insurance.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Classical music is both my profession and my hobby, I heart music. Outside of that, I enjoy binge watching the netflix, cooking, eating, teaching, running, sleeping, and stocking my idols on social media.
What is something interesting about you most people don’t know?
Even though I grew up by Six Flags, I pretty much never went because I up-chucked on an older couple after riding a “big boy” ride for the first time as a kid. I’ve been afraid to go on “big boy” roller coasters ever since..
SUGAR, It’s my vice. I was halfway tempted to submit a picture of the cookie monster for my nomination pic.
Favorite music to workout to?
LOUD EDM, Mattie Rogers workout playlist wins so hard!
Favorite WOD, lift or skill?
I think that depends on where my ego is at. Right now, I’m starting to feel pretty comfortable doing handstands, so those(till I can’t do them anymore, then we can re-assess)
WOD, lift or skill you never ever want to do again?
I can’t say that I have one in particular that I never want to do again, I just would like to be better at certain skills to make me feel more confident going into a WOD. Your body feels trashed after most of them anyway!
What’s your proudest CrossFit/Lifting achievement to date?
This is a hard one, I think that my proudest moment comes whenever I land under the bar just right during the snatch. You know the feeling, it’s like being friggin’ Thor.
What’s on your bucket list? Or what are some goals you are trying to accomplish? (either at the gym or otherwise)
Gym wise: I have several lifting PR’s that I’d like to hit this year, plus the various skills that need some tender love and care. Life-wise: I want to go back to grad school, get a new bass(they are literally monetarily worth more than my life), and make a decent living doing what I love/maybe win a job in an orchestra one day.
Anything else you want to include?
If I told you anymore, I might have to kill you 😉
If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
It’s hard to pick just one, but if I’m being candid, I would have to say that I’d be interested to have a sit-down with Dmitri Shostakovich, that man was the king of subliminal messaging and being passive aggressive.
If you were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you? My phone, my phone charger, and a solar panel… I’m a millennial. I’ll order supplies on my LTE, surely it’ll go out there.
