This week’s Garage Spotlight Member is Lauren Hughes! Lauren was nominated by Joe Cambre and Kristin McKenna Crowe. Kristin said, “Lauren is my hero. When I grow up, I want to be her.” And, it’s true. We all hope that one day we can be just as awesome as Lauren.
Name: Lauren Hughes
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from and how did you get here? Originally from Woodstock!
How long have you been a member at The Garage? 4.5 years
How did you find The Garage? I actually saw the sign driving by. I had been looking for something different to try fitness-wise. I decided that after I finished my bachelor’s degree, that I was going to spend some time working on something for my health. My husband was the one who suggested that I try crossfit. I hadn’t even really heard of it and wasn’t even completely sure what it was. But clearly, it had to be better than the “cupcake curls” I had been doing.
What do you like about working out at The Garage? I love the people. I never had any intention of finding friends at the gym. It was not even a concern when I started. But I love the great coaches. I love all the “OGs” who helped me and encouraged me. I love meeting all the new faces too. I appreciate all they ways the gym accommodates any condition/injury. It was great to have a place that was so willing to work with me during 2 pregnancies & postpartum periods. Working out here makes me a better person. Helps with stress management and overall makes my day better and me a nicer person to be around.
What do you do for a living? Land Surveyor, student (again), mom
What are your hobbies and interests? I love hiking, cooking, eating, traveling (although I don’t get to go much right now), and birth/new baby stuff
What is something interesting about you most people don’t know? I’ve been a registered Girl Scout Volunteer for the past 8 years…(I’m really not very interesting)
Favorite food(s)? Hamburgers. Pretty much all red meat. Add cheese, and I’m in heaven.
Favorite music to workout to? OG Gangsta Rap
Favorite WOD, lift or skill? OH squats
WOD, lift or skill you never ever want to do again? Thrusters
What’s your proudest CrossFit achievement to date? Pull up. Still working on kip and overhand grip. But getting that first one took LOTS and LOTS of practice.
What’s on your bucket list? Or what are some goals you are trying to accomplish? (either at the gym or otherwise) Current personal development goal: Live in the moment (I fail miserably at this) Hike the entire AT.
If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Neal Armstrong. Confirm the moon landing actually happened. 😉
If you were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you? A really great cup, a machete, and hammock.
