Kenie Betts

This week’s Garage Spotlight Member is Kenie Betts! Kenie was nominated by someone who said, “She goes ham every time and motivates us at the 8pm class!!” Go see Kenie at 8pm and say hey!

Name:
Kenie

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from and how did you get here?
Cali born. Metro ATL bred. Left for a few years (War Eagle!), then found my way back.

How long have you been a member at The Garage?
Since October 2016

How did you find The Garage?
Groupon

What do you like about working out at The Garage?
I love the fun of it! 8PM WOD squad never stops laughing ๐Ÿ™‚

What do you do for a living?
TPM/SAP technical analyst by day – KSU student by night

What are your hobbies and interests?
Unapologetic nerd – but like the cool, instagram kind ๐Ÿ™‚ I collect comic books, into woodworking + poetry + coding + OCRs, and play in a couple rec softball leagues on the weekends

What is something interesting about you most people donโ€™t know?
I built I semi-functional low-power hoverboard for an engineering project in high school once. But it low key could only hold the lightest kid in our class; I still feel like it counts

Favorite food(s)?
If all the world were made of pasta, I could live with that

Favorite music to workout to?
Hip-hop / Rap. Louder = Better, gotta have a beat to dance to ๐Ÿ™‚

Favorite WOD, lift or skill?
Back squats for days

WOD, lift or skill you never ever want to do again?
Wallballs can gtfo. But also, all cardio if that were a real option

Whatโ€™s your proudest CrossFit/lifting achievement to date?
When I got my clean over 100! I still don’t feel very good at them, but that’s what Ayse’s here for, right?

Whatโ€™s on your bucket list? Or what are some goals you are trying to accomplish? (either at the gym or otherwise)
I’ve banned myself from getting any new tattoos until I get my pull ups. So pull ups. And then more tattoos.

Anything else you want to include?
I shared this bit of knowledge with someone at the gym last week – The best film order for a first time Star Wars watcher is 4-5-1-2-3-6. Catch me at the gym and I’ll explain why.

If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Probably Edie Windsor. I imagine she has valuable insight about driving towards multiple major goals simultaneously, and being successful, while staying authentic and humble. Plus, I bet she could help me with my homework ๐Ÿ™‚

If you were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
A spile, a sat phone, and a solar charger. That way I can stay hydrated while I call a ride, because I’m way too much of a city kid to live on a deserted island. Sorry Girl Scouts, you tried ๐Ÿ™‚
